Everyone agrees 500 per day for formatting is a pittance.
We should all agree too that techies are their own worst enemies. If today I pass over a job because you are offering me 5K for a job worth 10K, there is a hungry techie willing to do it at 3K, and yet another one willing to 'ho' it for 2K..So why should I be paid 10K?
If we all stuck to our guns like your plumber, perhaps we would be a happier lot, and so would our plumbers.
Food for thought:
-There are far less plumbers than there are techies.....and they know it too :) So, if your local plumber demands 2K to fix your tap, format machines for 4 days.

electric pump compared to formatting a computer? IT people really
undervalue their skills. No wonder we will never be at per with
CFO's in terms of pay yet it is the technology that's driving modern
organizations.
