@Maina, What I meant to say is that I'd have loved to get one of their (DSTV) PVRs that have HDD/LAN, but I know that will force me into LNB and a Dish, and I hate having a dish, so I wished they could just work with that stab antenna:-) On Wed, Jun 13, 2012 at 8:00 PM, maina <dmaishe@gmail.com> wrote:
Wash what do you mean by "I hate having a dish though"? for GOTV you dont need any dish..you use the normal telly aerial or stab that comes with decoder, if these dont work for you for one reason or the other they have a grid aerial selling i think @3K or so.

@Brian,
I decided to go for the GoTV offer, based on your recommendations.
One thing I had always thought about is using their PVR (the one that has HDD at LAN port) but the price (50K) wasn't wuite freiendly to mypocket. Now I hear they have another PVR on offer at 30k, but it doesn't have the LAN, but has HDD. They say another with LAN will come soon. I hate having a dish though, so I am still waiting to see if a better product will surface...
I asked about their second package and they said it's in the works - will come soon.
I however thing that you (and me) should relax a bit. Competition will make them offer more content on their packages even when they think they have premium channels..!
Itwould be good to have an STB that is universal - can work with all providers, so you are not locked into one when you are unhappy.

I currently only have one qualm about GoTV, they had promised to offer a second package, this is almost 10 months down the line and nothing is forthcoming. In Uganda and Nigeria they have two packages. And in Uganda since inception of the product.
GoTV has also aggressively advertised though I am no longer ardent media reader/viewer, they even lowered prices 2 months before wind of Star Times got to the common mwananchi.
The GoTV STB is on DVB-T2 which is something you have to be very careful when purchasing an STB, though I know you will not be on Luthuli Ave looking for one.
Mainly the advantage of Digital TV on DVB-T for me is the prospect of content on a cheaper platform than DVB-S, but I wonder if GoTV will offer a competing product to themselves.
My take on this is that if you are already paying for satellite from DSTV then you prolly will not require this, unless Startimes comes with content not available on DSTV.
PS. I am not in anyway marketing for the products mentioned.

As we progress into the Digital TV space, I am wondering which
model/unit
is the best (featureful) that I can get in the market.
The only company I see advertising aggressively is STARTIMES which are suggesting I buy their Chingchong DVB-T2.
I'd like advise from people who have trodden this path, the early adopters like @DavidKiania, on whicd device they recommend - available in the mkt.
I am curious about this Digital TV signal thing - my TV signal is already to clear that I wonder what difference the DVB-T2 would make in my life, bar for the govt's plan to switch of the Analogue signal.
