These guys could reach any point of the 48 acre school within 3 minutes any time of day or night. Training was done by senior students and was a VERY serious affair. Every weekend fire fighting practice was awesome to watch with jets of water from the engine directed at mock fires. Now that I think about it, the dormitory doors were never locked unless unoccupied and spaces were organized such that getting out was easy with no barriers to free movement. There were fire hydrants outside every building block (the fire engine was a 6manpower mkokoteni with a 300HP diesel pump) and fire extinguishers in reachable areas. The entire school including staff in their quarters were subjected to random (and very irritating) fire drills. Everybody had been conditioned and knew exactly what to do and where to go in the event of a fire. There was also professional student run First Aid and security response squads. That a good business idea you can sell it to the schools very impressive. All school are to be fitted with fire extegushers that can also be added.

Good people, Can someone in the know tell me why it is *impossible* for the Ministry of education to mandate all dormitories to have smoke detectors?
My reasoning is that it will take just one incident for my sibling in school to die from smoke/fire, just one, and they are gone forever.
Plus these damn detectors aint that expensive, $45<http://www.consumersearch.com/smoke-detectors>for one which uses both photoeletric and ionization technology.
