I once thought of creating a neighbourhood-based, SMS-verificiation carpool application so avg. occupancy can be pushed-up (and costs for car owners pushed down). But a friend told me Nairobians will never share their cars, not even with their neighbours (even if it benefits the car owner as well). The reasons were many, but chief among them was the "dilution of status". I don't know how true this is but it sorta made sense and promptly discouraged the idea.

For car-owners with occupancy < 2 ... what's your perspective on this?
