When the Apple iphone first showed up, the phone manufacturers said "...The devices are too expensive, besides, our market share is much more,, it will take time to catch up.."
Two years later, the story changes, motorola and sony-e phones are on their way to the negative margins, mototola more on the negative... and Apple takes 20% of total mobile handset profits despite selling only 5.2 million units in the quarter... Not to mention that they are now one of the biggest media online sales company, churning sales in mp3 [lets go after wall mart], books [lets go after amazon] , apps etc
[nokia leads the pack though, at 50% with diverse handsets for all prices and uses]
Motorola has had to re-think its "smart phone" production as a way to hit back from below the x-axis to somewhere above it by relaunching this new device...
Will they make it ? What has Google Android and iPhone done right ?
