Considering that there's the cost of production also to be footed by the the sponsor and for me to get my bread out of it, it meant i had to allocate a lot of airtime to the sponsor to an extent that the show would not look independent rather it would be free airtime for the sponsor. And how many sponsors do we know who have such deep pockets and would be interested in tech shows? That drew a thin line between the show's motive and the ownership. In 2010, i had this idea and i thought it was time to get our tech out there, i even made a prototype for it and approached several media houses selling the idea to them. The reality however was different, the show was to either come in 13 or 25 episodes and i had to buy the slot for all these shows (which was about 350k per 25mins then), this is where it was even harder because i had to get a sponsor to the show to buy those slots for me to air.I definitely like the excitement that this thread has elicited and the turn its taking. I've got a few pointers though.
To cut the long story short, i still have my demo with me as it didn't make any sense to have a show that would feature anything that deemed to not be inline with the sponsors interest. That then explain why the major tech shows, BBC Click and CNBC's Tech@Work are initiatives of the media house themselves as the overheads are seen as any other operational cost.
With that said, i think a youtube channel would do for starts, PM can start a project on www.asana.com and we hope that with the mobile penetration and a bit of campaign we can drive viewership from all corners of Kenya and beyond. We still need some sponsor of some sort since a quality camera don't come cheap, at about 50-70k or so per day would afford you services from someone who's worth their name in that field.
Bwana PM, i suggest we start small, look around get some more ideas, get right combination in the team and take on the open seas of opportunities. My best wishes.Njoroge MathuOn 20 May 2013 16:19, Bogi Benga <bogibenda@gmail.com> wrote:
Best regardsThank you for taking up the PM role. I am currently based in SA hence I couldnt handle that role. In the meanwhile I ll be happy to chip in trendy ideas that i believe have worked done here. Definitely this will be a success if packaged well@Calvin
Dear All,
I am glad this has been taken with overwhelming enthusiasm. Lets keep the fire burning.
Apparently internet access penetration in Kenya is higher than SA. How about that!! When I introduced this topic up i knew that we are a power house and can definitely pull it off.
There is a similar show down here that has been a success story. We could borrow a leaf or two

@Calvin, may I suggest that, where possible, you delegate some tasks. That way, you don't become over-burdened and exhaust your reserves of "pysche". As I proposed earlier, anyone who has commented on this thread has some sort of interest in it, making them possibly be willing to undertake some tasks.

Larry should be quite helpful to this cause. He has haboured ideas along similar lines in the past. He is in the media too which makes him almost a natural fit for this.Martin.Regards
