Thats true Brian. But think of it like the vehicle GPS application that sends out its coordinates and other info to a Rescue Services server the minute it crashes(..adjustment and enhancement of programming algorithms.) My point is, radar has failed more than enuff times- KQs Douala crash, Air france and even the infamous September 11 when planes apparently went off-radar. I think GPS can still work for tracking. You don't have to wait for the plane to crash to see smoke. Even though GPS may be useless under water or after the crash, it will still give the last known position because the airline operation centrea are always tracking the aircraft. Something like 'Last Known Good Location.'

its amazing how airlines havent considered the use of GPS in their tracking systems( IEC Broadband reporting) yet every other valuable(cars, phones, laptops n even kids!) is GPS enabled. This is quite shocking considering the NSA's rating of GPS systems as having accuracy rates of 99.3% for last mile applications. With GPS the crash site would have been located within minutes of going off radar. Guess its something our local airlines could score a first in. Over to KQ and KCAA.
