Noticed that too. It seems they are trying to integrate the old back-end with the new site and the core functionality (searching flights and bookings) is not working to well. They may have been in a hurry to launch without testing.
 
An additional thing that can make the site better is to go further and reduce the clutter. Remove the ways to pay from the main page, it is not necessary, that can be added when a booking is made and one is just about to pay. Also get rid of the KQ updates and their acquiring of new planes. Can put that on About Us or somewhere else. Most airline sites don't have this.
 
The look in to iOS and Android App for KQ, it will be nice, and most traveller are always mobile and nowadays mobile sites don't just cut it.
