I need to put my 2 cents in here. I've updated to 4.0 and also hacked. When i hacked, i enabled the multithread tech and it slowed down dramatically. Absolutely they are performance problems, especially for the 3G. But I have been very happy so far with the 3GS

I dont think you are a heavy user of Iphone. You will get performance problems and you know that 3g, 3gs and 2g iphone has battery issues which have been solved to some extent in Iphone 4.
