Airbnb does request users to verify their accounts before use with passports or national IDs.


There are numerous way to guarantee user safety. airbnb, uber etc did not have all the answers on the first day too. the best of what they have done so far can be borrowed into the app to ensure security and safety of the users.

Again, a car pool concept would need the users to bare some risk on accidents same as they do while riding on a private car. A small print and bold disclaimer at the terms and conditions which no one ever reads would not hurt.

The biggest failure of the solution would not be from a security perspective but rather a revenue model perspective for the application providers.

As we all know, most drivers use a standard route every day from home to work. Once you carry two or 3 guys, and hit a rapport, then the payment model goes from being via the app to standard over the dashboard sort of payment. Slowly the service loses revenues it can not track.


One would think there would maybe be some success on long distance travel, but we all the attitude with Kenyans when they want to travel long distance, its either a direct drive which is guaranteed in a bus or matatu or an inconvenienced private trip on your own.

The variables change when you want to do it commercially with a mass market target. It is these changed variables that need to be mitigated.

Just because Uber, Little Cab and Airbnb are successful doesn't necessarily mean a similar venture for car pooling would work (or not).

There are three parties here; driver/owner of the car, passengers and the company offering this service. Now, if an incident happens and either the driver or passengers get injured or lose property, or the car gets damaged, whose responsibility will it be to prod and push our law enforcement to investigate to the end? And once the culprit is apprehended, what sort of refund mechanism is there?

Who bears the greatest responsibility in this scenario?

If its going to be a hassle to get CCTVs installed and managed by saccos for nganyas some innovation is required. Some of these incidences are getting very ugly.
