Hey Wes, Couldn't have put it better myself. What it takes is a good idea, a prototype, and the passion to develop into a great business. One of the things that came up during the talk is that as a pilot to Malili Technopolis Govt is aiming to take over 100% of Sameer Business Park. The ICT Board will relocate it's offices there and presumably expand the delivery of services to the ICT sector (public and private). Additionally there will also be a certain amount os space set aside to provide incubation type services to BPO/ITES entrepreneurs and ICT entrepreneurs (techpreneurs) who have the necessary ingredients - they will receive among other things a certain period of rent-free/subsidised offices space and probably a range of other supportive admin/biz services. This facility will remain as a "satellite facility" complementing Malili along with other similar satellite facilities around the country. Needless to say - all these development will serve only to boost the confidence of investors and there is a likelihood that there will be a huge influx of venture capital and private equity looking for such projects, both in and out of such centres. Interesting times indeed! Brian On Mon, Jan 25, 2010 at 7:27 PM, wesley kirinya <kiriinya2000@yahoo.com>wrote:
Thanks Brian,
Allow me to say: This is one of the best times in Kenyan history to be a Technopreneuer (Tech Enterpreneuer). Not only is the government making great efforts (thanks PS Ndemo) there are people and companies willing to finance companies with great ideas and also partner with such local companies. One of the key missing items are people with great ideas, with prototypes of their great ideas and some sort of business model for their great ideas.
If I were one of you skunkers who is sitting on a great idea, I would get off the list and start building a prototype of my grand idea and create a business model for it! If you have already done that and you don't know what to do, simply do a shout out on the list. There are a good number of people in the list including myself who can point you to the right direction.
One may wonder why I'm saying this. Back in our days (actually a few years back), it was the good old gridding, till your teeth fall off. You could present your ideas to a company and they wouldn't give a !@#$. However this has changed significantly.
So go out there to those free events with Food and internet already sponsored. Learn how the business environment works, learn how to present your grand idea (ofcourse with a prototype at hand) and Learn how to protect your grand idea!
Enough Said!

Hi Skunks,
Heads up for the next big thing - a tech city in a place called Malili. Permanent Sec. Dr. Ndemo gave a talk about this to KICTANET members last week. Look at the powerpoint at:
