@Joram True dat - the winner is you, me, mama mboga and all the other KE subscribers! B On Mon, Aug 23, 2010 at 4:31 PM, Joram Mwinamo <joram.mwinamo@gmail.com>wrote:
This fight is overrated. I think after referendum we needed a new story.
Zain might have shot themselves in the foot. Because if safaricom drops prices, what will they do next? They would probably have made more money without such drastic cutting of prices. I predict Zain might have to innovate services around its international network to survive otherwise they might keep the kenyan operation running at a loss for a while.
Safaricom shareholders who are short term speculators will lose out (after buying at Ksh 2.10 im still waaay in the positive for a long time to come) And nothing stops safaricom from going into IPTV services as well.
I think this fight will just call for more innovation. And the winner is.....ME!

Phares,
You may be right about Safaricom probably remaining waaaay ahead versus competitors in terms of revenues - but I can bet my bottom dollar that the next results they post will show a massive drop in profit as compared to the same period last/current year.
As a listed company this is going to have a huge impact on their share price. Already some analysts are telling their customers SELL, SELL about Safaricom as of this morning......
Anyway, let's watch the drama unfold!

And if Zain and YU do the same?
Safaricom can not do that, it'll be a demise to them pia
Safaricom are currently the only network that can leverage economies of scale... Basically, if all charge the same rate, Safaricom, all factors remaining constant, will have at least 6 times the revenue of the competition given market share...
