I also advocate for different categories. Some of the best coders are poor designers, and some of the best designers cant code to save their lives. Therefore it would be interesting to see who excels in the different areas. I believe there is a lot of skill in Kenya. However, unearthing these guys is a different matter altogether. By the way, is it me, or does the Computer Society of Kenya always reward the same guys? I attended some of their events of Website of the Year etc, and to be honest I didnt think too much work had been put in. On Fri, Jan 22, 2010 at 9:36 AM, Rad! <conradakunga@gmail.com> wrote:
I would be more interested in recognizing much more than 'development'. We seem to always fail to realize that software is not just about coding. Coding is but a small part of the entire process. This is why there are so many fly by wire companies developing poor solutions and it is very difficult to find good software engineers in Kenya
I think the award should be 'software producer of the year' and take into account the following processes
- Architecture & design - Project management - Look & feel - Development - Testing - Deployment - Support
