Went to the Elite digital service center and they say that though I amunder warranty, they charge a service charge for macs not bought at their shops. And my warranty is still valid for harddisk replacement though. I happen not to know where this macbook was bought just that the shop is in town. Would anyone know of an apple reseller in town? had the same issue on an imac...after upgrade failed but restored to factory osx. try reinstaling previous os but if its under warranty should be covered if its a hardware issue but for spares takes 3 to 4wks or even more depending on where u purchased it.

I don't think installing any software on the Mac voids your warranty so bootcamp, Unix, etc on the Mac should be perfectly legal. I believe warranty is usually on hardware. Software can be reinstalled.
