Changing the option to packet data on the phone doesn't necessarily mean that SMS will use gprs as the bearer. For SMS over GPRS, instead of the MSC relaying the message to the SMSC, the data nodes(SGSNs) will be used. An SMS to be delivered to mobile phone is routed to/from the SMSC toward the SGSN on the Gd interface if this SMS is to be sent over GPRS.It is this Gd interface that is currently not implemented by any of the operators(safcom included). So even though packet data is preferred, the SMS is still sent via GSM/UMTS. ./bernard On Mon, Apr 12, 2010 at 4:35 PM, Andrew Wafula <awafula@gmail.com> wrote:

Safaricom supports it, am not in in coverage now to test it but someone can try and tell us, under message settings, text messages, use packet data, [yes]
