Amicus Sirkal Yeah we have a very right and responsibility to validate some if note all of the IT projects that are undertaken in this country to avoid a simillar shame that IEBC brought to us as IT profesionals in this country and this is one of such a project. My submissions this topic is that: 1) There is a need for a team to be formed to analyse and develop the laptop specifications that takes in considerations all the unique requirements of universal use of laptops in Kenya not only looking at the solar powered but also issues to do with security, bandwidth, transfer of these laptops, warranties, support among other that are very unique to Kenya. 2) Once all these requiremenys have been built there is a need to start identifying vendor or service providers to these requirements. 3) If this project is to be a success all teachers need to first be brought ul to speed in terms of IT savyness. This need to be done i a rapid way an within the shortest time possible. To me this is a task that can take one year but a good projecy manager can curve a critical path of 6 months. 4) K.I.E has developed a digital sylabus but am not sure how further. So teachers should be trained on how to train the new sylabus digitally. Again here you need a bit of time. 5) In addition to all the kids in school, all the teacher first need to be given laptops first obvious leasons in that they need to get acquinted with these devices so that they can start training others. This new phone is such a mess to type in.....so let me rest my case there and allow other skunkers to contribute. Listers,
Now that the dust has settled its time to get back to work, as a country we have had numerous interventions to bring computers to schools, most of this have been based on public private partnerships. However we have had mixed outcomes with regards to the success and failure of the initiatives, i am not sure whether we have an information resource on the success stories or failure that we can learn from, none the less: 1. Is this a timely idea? What are the chances of success considering the digital villages and Nepad e-schools project experience? 2. How will the program be sustained? 3. What is the overall goal of the project and what does it mean to a child in Moyale?
Thank you
Amicus Sirkal
