
Hello Rad, All, If it was a managed service (a service where you lease the modem from the provider) .. yes it would be unfair to the provider because technically the modem belongs to them. But in this case you *bought the modem* and how you use it or with whom should not really be their concern. A service consumer should be protected from incurring capital expenditure that is tied to proprietary technology used by the service provider. This can be done in wither two ways, One is to LEASE the proprietary equipment as part of the service. Second it to advise the consumer to purchase the open / standard equipment from either the provider or an independent manufacturer. How would you feel of KPLC decided to sell proprietary bulbs, TVs computers etc together with their elec such that of you bought your own and plugged them to the mains .. they wouldn't come on ... 2009/10/12 Rad! <conradakunga@gmail.com>
Let's also be look at it from the telco's point of view. The modems offered by Safaricom/Zain/Yu offer are subsidized by the aforementioned. Is it fair for me to subsidize something for you to use it with my competition?
