Are we a failed state to me YES and NO, YES coz, the populous are frustrated with the system, the institutions have failed, Tribal division is massive ( to an extent someone will get personal after just reading your name) and we are hungry in the 21st century!
NO coz we still have something to show against Somali and DRC, Sudan South blah blah,
How have we failed; Our 'democrazy' has failed nothing goes on without being objected, only the MPs pay raise motion, so our leaders have failed, We have failed as a people, we pay bribes to get things done, we want much more than we have achieved, we like free things (I was in Sweden and they have trams and for you to pay all you need to do is swipe your card and no one comes round checking if you paid or not, yet 99% of the people I counted paid up, actually the 1% was me well coz I was a Kenyan), in this case I see a society built from the family level, Our spiritual side is dead as a society, we have forgotten God, how many of you go to church/ Mosque etc we do not respect each other am currently in DRC and they have the respect that you would never get in Kenya, same in TZ it might look stupid but I think its worth it, what happened to spanking of kids in school? now students (pupils during our time) can burn a whole school down, oh tell me what will happen when they grow up. Oh and I know you will start the ' developed world' example, dont we have failed as a society. We stopped teaching our kids morals, a kid can slap a grown up, break things in school and YOU as a parent go and defend him/ her. How can hawkers burn a fire engine ( tell me these are people who are thinking). Are we greedy? all of us.... the list is huge... Family planning ( case of a guy in Kibera getting 9 kids yet his income is less than 200 Ksh a day ... he will be blaming the government) the reason why most European countries Population did not grow after the WWII is coz of the great recession, poverty was high most of them got only one or two babies...
Sometimes I wish the British had stayed just longer to fix some systems
in us, our systems fail all the time. We never do something that lasts
long all we like are quick fixes, Kenya has been well placed for long
enough to make full use of the Neighbors resources, think about this
we control the coast for four countries Uganda, Rwanda, DRC, Sudan... we
have local contractors who are well equipped than other of the above
countries. In every industry in Kenya we are far more advanced than any
our neighbors, if we could realize this and capitalize on it then I think in the next generation we would not be talking like we do... but again being a country of people who want a Quick fix we do not see beyond our borders, graves wealth... the Chinese have realized this and that's what they are capitalizing on, Africa is still virgin ... we should be having companies expanding all over starting with East Africa, we even had a car manufactured in Kenya, if only the government then was far sighted now we would be producing cars for the African market, our police force would be using the same ... our Techies would have jobs and be innovative... We should all have a vision, not for us but for a better Kenya for our Kids, as Mugo said, we should also teach our children to respect each other regardless of skin colour ethnicity and to make Kenya better for their children, we should build systems that last a generation and not to dwell in the past too much.
I believe the moment our society is healed that is when we will have a Kenya that we deserve, the power is in us and I do not mean the power to vote ...
My two cents....
We need someone like Augusto Pinochet or Josef Stalin to fix the systems. The end will justify the means. In the end we may have millions dead but then we will have a better Kenya.
Any corrupt Kenyan will be shot or hanged immediately.
We will also have a Nuremberg style trials, where as we try the politicians, the hang man is waiting outside to hang them immediately when the guilty verdict is pronounced.
Lazy people will be excommunicated to Kismayu, Somalia. And we will threat our neighbors with nuclear weapons, and have some permanently pointed at them. We will disconnect the fibre optic network as punishment for any little inconvenience they cause us. We will force them to open their markets unconditionally for our goods and services.
We will drill underground pipes to mine the oil in Sudan and Uganda, and re-export it to them at exorbitant prices. The river Nile will be redirected to Lake Turkana, then to Lake Victoria, creating an infinite loop of water. We will tax our neighbors for utilizing the shoreline and the waters of Lake Victoria.
These are some of the measures which are long overdue.
We will fix Kenya within a year.On Wed, Jul 8, 2009 at 11:45 AM, Kenneth Muhia <kzmuhia@gmail.com> wrote:
I think we need an intelligent hardliner, somebody similar to the Mao in china,
Such a leader would be able to get the country back to order and would surely eliminate the impunity that exists especially amongst the current leaders.
Considering he will be a dictator he may be able to get hardworking guys reaping from their labour, and thus eliminate the need for corruption and off-course smoke guys who incite others and remind us of our tribal affiliations.

Correct! While an advocate for free speech, we ought to clearly distinguish between "free speech" and "hate speech". We can still drive our points home with some sort of decorum without resorting to lowly insults... Aware there's a proposed anti-hate speech bill for parliament's consideration.
