Hackers today are moving more into human hacking since
you cannot cure the ignorance of users. Its much easier
and the user installs for you the bot in there device.

There has been cases where bots are sold to users(so that
they can look legit).

I prefer it when malware was free.

Security is multifaceted, it depends on many fronts among them:

   1. How fast are vulnerabilities patched?
   2. How easy is it for the user to patch the vulnerability?
   3. How easy is it for the user to know about of the vulnerability?
   4. among others

Vendor 1 can only have 3 critical vulnerabilities in a 12-month period and
take 1 year to patch them. Vendor 2 system can have 10 vulnerabilities in
12 month period and have users patch each of of them in 10 days. So which
vendor is more secure? This generated some debate of Microsoft vs Google
90-Day Disclosure

I also think that no O.S is more secure than others in really significant
ways. The reason Windows is hit more often than not is because it has a
bulk of the users, especially those on desktops. Most of them are novices
in computing but more importantly, if you are to look at them as a market,
you get the most supply from that lot. At the least you can make most
profits (credit cards numbers, machines to take over as zombies, email
account / password pairs etc) from them.

Linux and other open source systems in my opinion are more vulnerable
security wise. The reason is that they are more open to audit, their flaws
if present are fully exposed to the whole world for scrutiny and
exploitation (Heartbleed, numerous 0-day holes in kernels, compilers, www
servers etc). Suprisingly, UNIX systems were not designed with security in
mind from the word go. The most important goal for its creators was to
enable people share computing resources at the same time in Universities
and Research labs. Those were highly trusted environments, security came as
an afterthought (Read the section named "Deficient by Design" for more:
http://homes.cs.washington.edu/~weise/preface.html

A primary cause there is lesser malware in the world right now is that
their authors (mostly rogue Russian and Chinese programmers) are now busy
writing apps for Mobile devices, selling them at App stores for cash :)

Martin.
