He can watch and follow these tutorials by The New Boston. About 30 <10 minute tutorials per day for 7 days. The tutor is pretty cool and interesting also, he will enjoy it.

He needs:

- Latest Java JDK

- Eclipse IDE

- Android device but if he doesn't have  - Eclipse provides various emulators for the different versions of Android OS
