You were definitely using IMAP and not POP. The emails you were seeing on your outlook client were downloaded onto a temporary cache which tries to keep in sync with what is on the online server so once you deleted Gmail it synced and got rid of the local cache
i deleted gmail account.
And i swear, before i deleted gmail, i was able to view my mails.....which tells me they had downloaded to outlook right??
