The host has a big part to play in security. Bigger international hosting companies are proactive on security. Ultimately the developer is reponsible for their own websites security but what good is it if a developer pulls all the security measures only for a hacker to gain access to the server through another website or directly through the host and mess up his website.

Wait a moment! Is it Safaricom's duty to ensure that the configuration of all websites (httpd.conf/nginx.conf/my.cnf/etc) hosted by them is secure?

So some folks at Safaricom have to sit down with the hosted entities and run an audit of the websites, or Safaricom have a software frontend that ensure all this happens automagically??

Someone please tell me who needs to take the blame? Is it Safaricom or the techie cobbling up together the website?
