Actually a group of Wikimedia contributors and I have been doing something in these lines. See [1] below. There is an text-only version of English Wikipedia that is 10GB as of January 2012. The file is highly compressed into a ZIM file and it requires a s/ware called Kiwix to
read
 it. Essentially, I was looking at having the S/ware and the English text only version in a flash and then go ahead implanting the same on walls at my campus.
