It's my theory that all tech companies eventually end up having more programmers than they need, which results in them replacing software that works quite well with a more heavier version of the software just because they can. 

This is why new entrants usually outperform established firms - for example, when Firefox came in, it was less than 5 MB and worked well. 

Nowadays,Firefox has turned into something else. As for Google, Google Talk was a light, nimble app that worked quite well. They then replaced it with Hangouts, a heavy, confusing app
