I think the first biggest consideration is the footprint, Galaxy Tab is 7 inches while iPad is 9 inches - first choice is whether you're looking for smaller or bigger.

Next in my book is the connectivity capabilities; Galaxy Tab by default offers Wifi, Bluetooth, 3G data and Voice while iPad offers only Wifi and Bluetooth on the lower end models and Wifi, Bluetooth and 3G on the higher end models (no voice on any model)

Finally I look at the Operating System and application verstatility, costs, ease of access, range etc... Galaxy Tab has Android and with it, access to the Android Marketplace which consists predominantly of free application (over 60,000), iPad uses the AppStore and has much bigger repertory of applications (200,000+?) but here is where the catch comes in, many of the more useable, attractive applications are for sale i.e. you must pay

In closing, another consideration (though) not as critical is the iPad handicap when it comes to Flash..
