@Kiania I fully agree with you. I just want to point out additionally that the figures we use for predicting power utility are flawed. Roughly 20% of households in Kenya have *access* to electricity. This says nothing about the regularity or quality of the same. Given cost, utility of power is too low. I insist we need the equivalent of fibre. To make it cheap and accessible to all. We don't have Amish people in Kenya, AFAIK. Most want power. Fast. Cheap. The 20% figures are of high cost, irregular power. With all this generators doing the rounds, along with solar panels in villages, demand is way higher than Kengen's figures. And that's for 20% of the population.... On Wed, Jul 29, 2009 at 8:51 AM, Areba Collins <arebacollins@gmail.com>wrote:
@david, you must be mistaken. Our generation capacity is way below 1900, must be slightly higher than 1050, but so is our peak demand. And with geo thermal potential of 7000mw, we would be the first nation. And i think cost wise it would help to work on the supply chain.

What use is there to giving food supplements to the starving instead of maize and beans?
Our national generation capacity is 1900Mw. One 'small' Nuclear plant produces 2000Mw costs about 1B USD and it takes 25years before we start thinking what to do with the spent uranium fuel rods.
Futhermore which country in the world has met it's electricity demands purely on renewable sources? Not even New Zealand or the Vatican ;-)
Can we be for real, we need electricity and badly it's not the source as much as the quantity and the urgency. It's worth noting that a good number of people on this list dont have electricity upcountry.
