How big is the market for stolen goods, especially electronics?
With the surge in jackings <http://www.nation.co.ke/news/Public-transport-crews-collude-with-carjackers-/-/1056/2076250/-/98o5i2/-/index.html>and burglaries where the thieves concentrate on electronics, it must mean there are ready buyers, presumably wholesale buyers.
For these 'wholesale buyers', they also have to have the confidence they can dispose their loot easily.
And that's where you and I come in by providing constant demand.
Is it that:
a) As a nation we pride ourselves in taking shortcuts? Have you realized that if you follow rules people will generally look down on you? That you are likely to be branded unsophisticated, not very smart, etc. On the other hand, guys who use dubious means to achieve stuff are regarded as intelligent, street-smart, etc. (This applies in so many other scenarios)
b) We want to have "that" life but the 'straight' method is just too expensive? i.e, I would love to own an S4 or an iPhone but I cant afford one. So when I get an offer for 30k, I am likely to take it.
c) We are genuinely oblivious of the vicious cycle we put ourselves in by creating demand for stolen stuff?
d) We've been hit before and figured that "if you cant beat them, join them"? If you buy an expensive phone and it's stolen from you, are you likely to shell the same cash again to buy a new one? Would you downgrade? Would you look for a similar but cheaper offer?
e) We genuinely unaware that the merchandise could be stolen? But then again, why would anyone sell an item for third of the price?
