This is a bit OT, so sorry to the OP.
I once read a big fat book on Africa (5 years ago or so), meant mainly for tourists and brave explorers. They go through all the countries in Africa, each gets due attention, around 3-4 pages each highlighting the must see sites and sounds, with accompanying photo's to entice even the most timid of travelers.
Chad.... did not fair well.
Chad got only half a page (half of which was a picture), and they point out that you should carry your own food & water, expect to struggle even for basic amenities, and only visit Chad if you must.
Hope this doesn't scare away potential candidates though, was quite some years back, and 5k usd @ month is quite a sweet deal.
