Well, I think its for the better. In my mind, Oracle and Java have always sounded very similar. As for MySQL, I try not to fear. A story of UniVerse db comes to mind. Folklore has it that this was a very energetic multivalue db in its time and was a big threat to IBM's DB2. So IBM bought the UniVerse and slowed its development. Hello everyone.
These two have been courting intimately over the last few years. Most versatile Oracle DBs are hosted on Sun Solaris OS and Sun SPARC Hardware. Java is an integral part of the Oracle DB. In fact most procedures in Oracle are written in Java. The Oracle EnterPrise Manager is also java based.
May be it is time they took their relationship to the next level and got married ;

About MySQL, I'm not really sure what's likely to happen, maybe they'll kind of mix MySQL technologies into Oracle DBMS [purely guesswork - same applies to OpenSolaris and Oracle Linux... maybe] As for Java, I believe it'll remain open-source together with NetBeans. They'll probably extend Java, increasing its capabilities.
But the best thing is to wait and see. I don't think they'll do anything bad to these already popular tools and technologies.. :)
