IE9 was also almost rewrite (i think) they probably dedicated IE9 as a test series culminating in a stable IE10. Msft has experdited their products eg Windows 8 has already been given to OEM partners for drivers testing, Win mobile 8 is almost out yet Win mobile 7 has barely taken off.

Msft were not the only guys against opensource in the 90s. Havent you heard of Adobe, Oracle and Apple. These guys have just as bad if not worse affinity for open source.
Ps. Am not pushing for IE9. Never used it in the first place.
