You should be looking at processing the CID on the incoming trunk so that by the time it gets to the extension you have identified the ID.

The outfit has one single contact number and each operative has their own desktop phone to attend to incoming calls. Can the list of regular callers be centrally managed, to eliminate the need to load the same in each and every operative's desk-phone?

Sounds like something that should already exist to me. Any pointers?
