Hallo @Larry, nice to have you on this forum and appreciate reading your feedback on issues. I'll post this and them am off.....

Firstly, thanks to Nation for that cover story of the police shootout and I'm not defending actions etc but after looking at the images from a TECH and PHOTOGRAPHER point of view, my mind is disturbed on some issues. When I looked at the 2 images ( cover pic and the pic taken from inside the car pg 10 ), something really struck me as odd. The lines and angles in the images are quite perfect which means that the camera person is quite good with photography and had time to get the frames.

Secondly, in 99% of adrelaine situations, to get the frames of such accuracy are quite difficult. On Page 10, the image taken from inside the vehicle, also has great lines and the camera is held properly. For someone driving or in a vehicle, it is almost impossible to get such a stable image.

Thirdly, the cover picture is not out of focus despite the cropping and/or zoom. It also looks like the images were taken out of the vehicle, therefore the photographer had time to focus and align the camera. The photographer put himself/herself at a very big risk because the distance of the vehicles between the shootout and camera is not more than 3-5 vehicles, seen from pic pg 10 . I dont know what zoom lens was used.

While the authenticity of the images is not in doubt that the event happened, it would be nice to know the meta-data of the images like date, time, camera used with lens, aperture etc. This data is carried in all images. Your technology writers can use most professional programs to read this data. If the data is contradicting, then you have another big and different story on your hands. Were the police setup to be caught in the act or was it just a simple thing of a photographer being in the right place at the right time?

And listers, am sorry to have to asked these questions or a temporary hijack of the thread.

@Aki,

In that story, I wonder why you focused on the wrong this, but it's understandable, because even the media are focusing on the wrong thing - Police Brutality, they call it. No one wants to focus on the following:

1. That the thugs (yes, thugs) were armed
2. That these thugs always have no mercy on their victims
3. That only licensed citizen, other than the disciplined forces, should carry a firearm
4. That if these thugs are taken to court, there is normally no sufficient proof to warrant conviction so they get away with it
5. That between the Police and these thugs, it's either cooperation (collusion) or fire.

The thugs kill innocent Kenyans almost daily and the only thing the media does it to blame the Police for it. When Police kill the thugs, the media still blames the Police for it. When the thugs kill the Policemen, still the Police take blame.

Who will stand up for the Police?

I am of the opinion that, in the absence of the death sentence in Kenya, there is no better way to deal with thugs than letting Police execute them, especially when the thugs are found to carry weapons. It's where the society has placed the Police. We should have a law that deals punitively with anyone found in possession of an unlicensed weapon.

My OT contribution.
