Listers, Sheng is not a language. For something to be called a language, it must have some rules & regulations (aesthtics) that govern it and beauty (cognitive values) that make it unique. Sheng changes every day; Kiswahili doesn't. The same structure I learnt in high school, is want I use even today, only that in today's Kiswahili, new terms such as 'Ruwaza' (Vision), 'Tuvuti' (Website) etc, have been added to the language. Therefore, I fully support this step by google. I'm imagining if google decided to have all local languages as part of its .ke, what would we say? Back to google.co.ke, I see no problem at all. It's an opportunity for local software developers and the likes to expand. Reason, in 1999, there were at least 20 dialects of Kiswahili from the Gulf of Aden (in Somalia) all through to the Mozamican coastline. There, we are not talking of the interior, and this can be related to that Cooperative Bank advert, which talks of a good business wo(man), and how (s)he can seize an opportunity. In this debate, based on the ad, I can deduce a good business person from a bad one! Finally, for those who can well remember, Shabaan bin Roberts, is one person who never misses when it comes Kiswahili debates. He aptly says, in one of his pieces: 'Titi la Mama litamu lingawa la mbwa, Lingine haliishi tamu. Watu wasio na lugha asili Kadiri walivyo wastaarabu, Cheo chao ni cha pili dunia - dunia ya cheo" On 10/08/2011, Barrack Otieno <otieno.barrack@gmail.com> wrote:
@ Brainiac, i think the problem is user friendliness according to the O.B, the complainant raised an issue that the language in question (swahili) was too difficult so we are looking at the pros and cons of having swahili as the default language of google.co.ke, but a lister has pointed out that it is easy to switch to english, which solves the problem. Charges dropped!!

Just wait a minute guys, are we assuming that a modern day user of google would be lost because of the handfold of phrases in swahili? i mean isnt google all about typing in the text box and clicking on enter? and navigating all about clicking on the O-s in Goooooooooogle.....

And instead of complaining about it you should be taking this chance to expand the vocab of this language that is native to your motherland!
