When it comes to ransomware , first dont run any antivirus or removal tool .. if you do , even the hacker won't have a solution for you , 

just pay if it's something small , sometimes the hacker when contacted can be reasonable and reduce the ransom amount ,

after decryption , boot with a linux live CD and backup all important documents one by one ... not folder by folder , 

then format the drive and restore your files and stick to genuine copies..if not learn to experiment cracked softwares on a virtualized environments .

i've only dealt with one incident, had to format the whole machine and lose all data ... same as getting your device stolen but without the pain of buying a new one
