Hey, for Oracle and Java you will be pushing it too far. A basic load of those Frameworks into RAM and into the page file basically takes a huge chunk out of your memory. Now virtual Memory isn't RAM and really RAM is actually what you need to increase. Virtual memory is in the simplest terms space on your hard disk that's reserved for use as RAM. Virtual Memory is so much slower than RAM and the type pf hardisk and can slow things further. so basically without going into details you basically need hardware upgrades on the Netbook if you want to heack Oracle. The bottom line is, Netbooks are not designed for what you want to do.

It might sound too restrictive but the processor needs to work as efficiently as it can and it might not do so if other items e.g. the OS can affect it's operations. (The operations would be less efficient because the processor will have to check whether it's state has been changed)
Using Java and Oracle 10g on that processor might be a frustrating experience.
Check the processor specs for Orancle 10g to be sure.

Java IDEs (and I believe the same for Oracle Forms) take up a good chunk of memory and processor. Other normal software on your system e.g. browsers also take a lion's share of your system's resources, and it's likely that such software will be running the same time as your development tools.
Besides the processor speed, the L1, L2, ... cache size of the processor is important, the Atom has 512KB-1MB which is rather small. This issue might come up in a memory intensive application. Anyway if you're workin on normal applications then this may not be an issue.
A Core Duo or Core 2 Duo or similar AMD processors might be better for middle to long term development.

Help! I am thinking of getting the lg x120 netbook that safaricom is offering. I have read reviews on it from the internet (for the netbook) and i was impressed. I may have all the info i need for it except one mega factor...can the atom processor work with oracle forms 10g? the ram is 1gig and the processor is 1.6ghz. the ram i can work with but i aint too sure about the processor. i figure that for kawaida java development, i may use the jcreator coz its relatively lightweight. anybody out there with helpful info?
