I tried USPS once, and since I had heard horror stories, I was expecting the worst to happen to my shipment. Anyway, contrary to my worst fear, the item arrive in Nairobi in 4 days, I went to Posta, collected that yellow cards, was send over to the branch near Kenya Polytechnic, and I collected my item with 10 minutes. They have KRA agents inside, and since it was a comp, it was zero rated, I paid Posta like KES 100 and walked out with it.
I have also gotten a lot of stuff using the posta / usps route ... and though the procedure for retrieving the item is convoluted (rubber stamp x 5 different people x 5 different counters ) , the service generally seems reliable. the only problem is if you have to pay customs / excise duty, you have to make the payments in cooperative bank at the end of haile selasie avenue which is about a good km away from the post-office (and there is generally a queue there) -- you pick up the receipt from there and then you come back again to the post office to collect your item.
