The alternative - http://www.dovado.com/ is available from South Africa - http://www.poyntingdirect.co.za/pDOV001/USB-Mobile-Broadband-Router.aspx or Globally - http://movingwifi.com/ (they also have the cheaper model 3GN without the - not really needed? - home remote control) The Dovado works very well with Huawei E220 and E162 but not a 100% with the ZTE AC2726 that Orange uses so am looking forward to test the TP-Link with the ZTE modem. I have one Dovado UMR left if you are interested. Which model is it from Huawei? Does it support EVDO as well? Tried it with Orange? If there was a reasonably priced 3g router without the need for an external modem I would go for that directly instead :) There are just too many new modems every year on the market and it is hard for the 3g router manufacturers to get hold of all of them to be able to release new firmwares. I actually use the Huawei 3G router that goes for 25k from safaricom. The challenge is that since the safaricom 3G speeds are always snails, you cannot do much on a medium network even if you subscribe to say, the 20GB bundle.

You actually only need a computer with a wireless network card and a 3G modem. Since you are connected using the 3G modem your wireless card is free to create a hotspot. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=share+3g+connection
