i do like the IDEOS phone but to me its impractical
1) hogs too much battery too fast - i am on the road two or three days a week
2) to save battery i was advised to reduce my apps - this is why i bought the phone
3) everything seems to be for sale - as a tekkie i expected way more freebies
4) software wars like the facebook issue - leaves me worried - what happens when i need the apps to breathe every day and someone pulls the plug because of some "code sharing" violation

i think the phone works for tekkies sitting on their laptops 8 hours a day , for those of us not able to access power most of the day , its a nightmare watching your green battery meter turn red.

The IDEOS are all about the user market. It should make developers excited that they will have  a greater market for their applications. By making smart phones cheap as chips we can reach people with technology that we could not before. I think this is landmark and quite incredible.

In terms of people needing to know how it works... We are using them in our ICT4D and Social Enterprise training class at Africa Nazarene University to students who will then teach the wananchi. We are accepting applications for next month's class.

In terms of the quality of the handsets, they are under warranty. If they are found faulty they should be replaced. We have found in our testing that there are some apps that have been developed that really take them down. The apps market should be entered with care as with any software. If it is not done thoughtfully, there are always issues.

On the Nokias, I found the hardware to be great, but the OS to be deficient in many ways. The Android 2.1 and 2.2 are tremendously better.

Best,

Crystal

yeah, great look where it got them.
Nokia  are the best example to use considering how well they are doing of late...
who buys a phone because of a great camera?

and by the way how many (average) photos do you take per day using a phone??

FACT: No phone camera is that good, cause quality of image is as good as the ccd. If you want snappy images, look for the D3 for instance and then buy a nokia 1100 for sms and calls.
That said, what a phone seeks to achieve is a balance of all, a family photo, a video of your stupid cousin drunk driving, mp3 on the road ...e.t.c .e.t.c  which means buying an expensive phone that is really a jack of all trades is bad investment...

IDEOS IDIOT!

How are developers concerned with hardware Problems?

These are warranty cases that have flooded Safcom and they have so far hidden it well :-)

i beg to disagree,
it is only by understanding the masses that this group can develop solutions that the masses need, for instance, by understanding how they are using, what they are complaining about and how they experience the idiot, the developers can understand the market.
