I agree... I did not mean to say that one shouldnt get a degree, meant to say that shouldnt be the end and it shouldnt measure you.
There is a lot more that comes with education than just the papers.
@Solomon, didnt 'oil' anyone... just got good referrals and probably I was at the right place at the right time...
I have actually mostly been self employed so that maybe one of the reasons why I have never had to present papers and when I got employed, the employer had evidence of my work and they actually needed me.

(pride etc) , and i remember the exact statement he used "degree is nothing these days ", well years later after we have cleared
he was doing small jobs here n there , but he cld not hold on to jobs because of lack of papers
so he did a certificate in what was pursuing , but with all the experience he had , he cld not move up , always earning the same range of salo
so NO David DEGREE IS NOT NOTHING

As far as am concerned, degrees these days mean nothing... its become something that everyone has. There is a time when having a degree was precious, now everyone has one, so its your intelligence and you capacity that takes you where you go.
I have NEVER at any one time presented my papers to anyone, I have worked and sat on the same table with and for very high profile people including Tanzania's president Jakaya Kikwete.
I have worked high profile jobs too, including my current one and still, NEVER presented my papers anywhere.
