Well, if these are the 'rules', then I think we are headed the wrong direction. The Government (CCK) should discoruage the use of obsolete technology and encourage operators to use the most current technologies and standards available. Why would one want to pay for a 2G license in a 4G era? Unless someone is really making a lot of money on the deals, they don't make sense.
No wonder I heard KBC (now on the brink of collapse) purchase billions of shillings worth of AM, MW and SW equipment just when the whole world was going FM and digital. And now apart from having unless equipment, they foot KES 30 Million for electric every month.
I this we have a case of failed leadership.
So they will force new internet consumers to cycle from using 19.2 kbps modems before being allowed to use the fiber optic then.
According to industry rules, any new telco must cycle through all
standards, ie must pay for 2G before been allowed to use 3G. So it
becomes cheaper to differ a 3G launch. Thats according to one of the
industry equipment manufacturers insider who is also on this list.
