In Aug'07 i was attacked by a mugger (is this an english word?) in Thome Estate. If u live in Kiambu/ridgeways area u musta heard of 1-man-guitar. The guy attacked me on my face with a panga and sent me halfway to kingdom come. When my mum went to the Kasarani cop station to report she was told ati OCS (or OCPD whatever the title is) had the OB she waited 2hrs to no avail. The report was done 2 days later. Of course she got the usual "mama u're late, by now the guy's long gone" crap. My family put a price on the guys head if they ever caught him or killed him. He was killed in Oct '08 The refused to act early enough, the guy was stupid enough to answer my cell if anyone called up to 24hrs after the incident. It wasn't until some relatives who were out of the country came back & decided to put prize money on the idiot's head that cops acted. Justice? Really? I don't know. If there was no prize money? I thinks its just a rotten system this our justice system On 4/20/10, Jared Koyier <jaredkoyier@gmail.com> wrote:
The rot in the police stems from the examination grading and the weight put on the overall score plus its consequences. Majority of cops got Ds going down, some were employed coz they could run faster. The problem with this is that no one expects a 'failure' to be well paid, even the employer. The consequence is that police force does not therefore attract good brains, both in terms of expected pay and nature of the work environment. What therefore do you expect from a lowly paid,house-sharing runner at a crime scene? The cops are not motivated enough to investigate. I once saw a cop with no clue, the difference btn, website, internet and email ,investigating an ICT fraud. Lack of interest, knowhow plus misplaced-stupid arrogance is how it looked. Police force must appeal to the best if it is to change

Kenya police are actually very well trained. Problem lies after training. Simple question would a CID officer bother with dusting a break in or better off looking at big guys who can give him cut back since his salo cant sustain him.

If you dig into the archives of this list, I had once asked what curriculum do the disciplined forces take in their respective training colleges so as to know where the mess might be.
@ Wash, that part of giving the wrong figure has got my ribs hurt. I like it though!

Actually most of them do not even know how to dust for prints. It looks simple on CSI but it does take a little skill to get a good print without smudging it.
Bottom line, aside from being grossly underpaid, they have little (if any) real training.
Not all cops undergo SoC (Scene of Crime) training. It's only a section within the CID, and these folks must always come from the CID office, not from the Police Station. Policemen have real training. The problem is that most of the time they feel invincible and hence abuse their powers and privileges to an extent that "Wanjiku" will wonder what kind of training they underwent.
If you ask me, I've first hand experience.
