I would go for Office 360 you get a bang whole lot more , as for legalizing your OS best get Volume licenses since they can be transferred if the machines fail , please note if your machine came with windows 7 you cant install windows 8 claiming to have a windows license. I would advise against going open source especially if you need to do alot of automation and macro coding your cost for hiring an open source consultant VS getting free advise from admins in forums or just google for windows scripts will bbe high and alos hiring an open source expert to manage and maintain these too .
