@Okechukwu,
FedEx is not the American Posta. It is a private company. The real American Posta is USPS (US Postal Service), and it is even enshrined in their constitution. There have been efforts to get rid of USPS, but that would call for amending of the US constitution. Either way, USPS is quit very efficient, and it offers affordable means to send parcels to US and all over the globe.
Back to our top:
I don't think Posta can be saved by digitization or whatever scanning of mails and posting on the cloud is called. It is not their core business.
There core business should be delivery of letters and parcels to clients wherever they are. And they are not even good at this. The concept of fixed post office boxes where one has to go to pick their letters is dated and not sustainable. If they could add value to their services, and earn more revenue by doing actual delivery to wherever the customer is.
But sadly, in Kenya, we do not have a well defined addressing system. Giving someone direction can be comical if not futile at times.
I know the City Council started such a project in CBD, I don;t know how far than got. But in reality, some locations in Nairobi are bot addressable. For a postal system to work, each house and premise in Kenya needs to have an address. We are a long way from there.
