Just to extend this pointless thread further ... 

'Alloy' means that they're using an alloy that's specific to the purpose (i.e. wheels).  The implication is that a metallurgist thought about the specific alloys needed for the part and that it's not a standard mix.

Surely, no sane manufacturer would use 'Cast Iron' or 'Pig Iron' to make rims would they ?
