Hi,

I recently installed Fedora 16 on a Toshiba U500 laptop (as a dual boot with Windows 7). However:

1) The CPU fan does not run when in Fedora hence making the laptop overheat (though the fan works fine in Windows).
2) Secondly, I am unable to reduce the brightness of the screen using the keyboard function keys.

Would like to know if anyone has encountered such issues before and if so, how they fixed both (i.e. enabling cpu fan and adjusting screen brightness through keyboard function keys)?

I have tried the following from online forums:
1) To install the toshiba omnibook drivers.
2) To add the line "echo 10 > /proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THZN/polling_frequency" to "/etc/rc.d/rc.local", in order to cause the temperature to be read every 10 secs so I don't have to worry about reading it via an application such as cat in a loop.

Neither of the options work, kindly assist.

Regards,
Michael
