Nat was a bandaid to extend the ipv4 address space, then people decided it was "safe" due to obscurity but I think that's just laziness and quite a number of people/companies have paid for it. Well said. Its amazing how widespread people mistake NAT for security. I am sometimes curious where this myth originally came from. There must be a book somewhere that may be raised the issue. If you check why most people don't like ipv6, lack of NAT is apparently the biggest problem
