MeeGo (Nokia) launched such a distro. Its basically a platform for developing mobile/notebook apps to run on ARM. See http://meego.com/downloads/releases/in-vehicle
It would be wise to know the underlying (maybe EEPROM) chip: ARM, PIC, Motorola,etc and the board supporting it.With the right reprogramming software, I'm sure its possible.But rather than "hacking", get an ARM11 MPCore....then you can do all fancy stuff with it...I'm sure there's an embedded linux distro that supports it...Bernard
