Flogging a solution for a problem that does not exist is not a smart move IMO. Safaricom keeps its clientele because it works. you want fast internet? safaricom has HSDPA and works right off a regular simcard. Want to transfer money? Safaricom has a countrywide network, bank affiliations, and western union. Are you a techno dweeb? Safaricom has an array of android, blackberry, nokia, sony erickson handsets and assorted tablets from the cheap to the not so cheap. . .the choice is yours. .
For Airtel and Orange (Yu is technically owned by Vodafone) the ecosystem does not exist yet or is not juicy enough for most of the people I know to waarrant a move. maybe the targeted demographic is different?
I think the whole number portability thing was overtaken by events. At the time it was conceived, calling rates were high and the idea was to break the "club" effect that safaricom was currently enjoying.Airtel is trying to woo people over with rational explanations. Good luck with that. My experience is that the explanation that "everyone is doing it" seems to justify pretty much anything. Find people who influence opinion, move them over, and maybe portability would gain traction thenThats my 2 cents.--On Mon, Apr 11, 2011 at 10:42 AM, Mak Muva <makmuva@gmail.com> wrote:
I agree with Watson Kambo and like minded people. Safcom have enjoyed
their dominance for sometime now but they also know that they can't
keep moving forever. Telcommunication changes everyday and its your
market conveniences that favors you. A thousand people is a big step!
Kenyans have queer ways of doing things! and if this is true then
don't be suprised if you woke up to an Airtel dominated Kenya
