If you have any of that bloatware that comes with a pre-installed Win machine which use up 2 or 3 extra partitions then you'll need to get rid of one. The problem might be that it cant find a primary partition to install to.

So the laptop with Windows 8 finally landed on my desk. But I promptly got it downgraded to Windows 7 as am really not ready to learn yet another Windoz OS, and this one is quite different from Windows 7. Now, while trying to install Ubuntu 12.04, the Ubuntu boots up and tells me that it cant find any OS in the machine. Thing is I need to have a dual boot. I am not the one who loaded the Windows so am not sure if there was a step missed in that. Any pointers anybody?

1. Disable Secure Boot from the BIOS. I didnt test if this interferes with Windows Updates 2. I used a bootable flash disk with Ubuntu 12.10, 64bit edition. It has to be 64bit 3.
