Opera Turbo works majorly on the concept of proxy server. As for Silk, it's the same basic idea, but done with several improvements and optimizations for mobile devices. It's like saying "The iPhone is just a phone." its several things: cache, predictive cache, content optimization (image compression, etc.). A good amount of the content is pre-processed in the cloud rather than the browser. The only downside I see is that the optimisation is made for a specific platform: kindle fire. They even mentioned 'last mile' connection but since the Kindle Fire has no 3G. That's a major #FAIL IMHO.

Is the browser really that revolutionary?? Isn't this how Opera Mini generally works? Also, Opera Turbo on the PC version of Opera. Good move by Amazon all the same.

Samsung is screwed on the tablet front. Lawsuits from Apple and the pricepoint on the Amazon tab mean their product will have a huge reduction in sales. Lack of a datastore is also an issue. Apple has iCloud.
On the phone front, it will be a replay of WW1, with Google being the untrustworthy party. Microsoft is going to be tightly integrated with Nokia etc.

I think the coolest feature is not the hardware or the price but Silk - the cloud based web browser that uses Amazon EC2 as a giant predictive cache/optimizer. Here is a short video that explains what it does: http://amazonsilk.wordpress.com/2011/09/28/introducing-amazon-silk/
The idea is that since everyone using the browser goes through the Amazon cloud back end Amazon can gather enough data to predict which page you will likely go to next so they can pre-fetch it before you click on the link. Not so sure how I feel about that from a privacy perspective but from a business perspective having all that usage data sets them up to compete with likes of Google in some interesting ways...
